Kale Smoothies
I love Kale smoothies, they are a delicious and nutritious ‘food’ that you can have at any time of the day. I tend to have them for breakfast but you can have also them with a meal to make sure you consume all your greens while consuming the phytonutrients that your body needs. kale smoothies are packed full of goodness and give you a boost of energy. this smoothie i have created has a blend of nutritious ingredients with lots of healthy fats.
Kale
Given its incredibly low calorie content, kale is among the most nutrient dense foods in existence. Eating more kale is a great way to dramatically increase the total nutrient content of your diet. Kale, like other leafy greens, is very high in antioxidants These include beta-carotene and vitamin C. Vitamin C is an important water-soluble antioxidant that serves many vital functions in the body’s cells. Antioxidants are substances that help counteract oxidative damage by free radicals in the body. Oxidative damage is believed to be among the leading drivers of aging and many diseases, including cancer.
Avocado
It’s often called “alligator pear,” which is very descriptive, as the avocado it tends to be pear-shaped and has green, bumpy skin like an alligator. Avocados are very high in potassium. A 3.5-ounce (100-gram) serving packs 14% of the recommended daily allowance, compared to 10% in bananas, which are a typical high-potassium food. Several studies show that having a high potassium intake is linked to reduced blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure
Blueberries
They are believed to have one of the highest antioxidant levels of all common fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants protect your body from free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage your cells and contribute to Aging and diseases, such as cancer.
Almonds
Almonds are full of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a family of fat-soluble antioxidants. These antioxidants tend to build up in cell membranes in your body, protecting your cells from oxidative damage. The magnesium in almonds may additionally help lower blood pressure levels. High blood pressure is one of the leading drivers of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.
Lets do it !!
1 cup, frozen or fresh Kale
- 2 tbsp. of frozen or fresh blueberries
- 1 large Banana
- 1-3 pitted dates (depending on how sweet you like your smoothie)
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/2 Avocado
- 1/4 cup of soaked almonds
- 1/2 tsp of ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp. of vanilla essence
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Start by washing your almonds with cold water (this gets all of the impurities off of the skin), then put the almonds in enough lukewarm water to cover. leave your almonds to soak for 1 -12 hours ( the longer the better). after your almond have finished soaking drain the water and rinse the almonds. next wash kale and blueberries ( unless using frozen ) cut kale into smaller pieces and put into blender. next add your banana, date(s), avocado and almonds. next add milk, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon and whizz away. make sure that your ingredients are blended thoroughly and ensure there are no lumps. and there you have a delicious healthy kale smoothie. simply pour into a glass and enjoy.
